The time has come...Riddlestown is now retired!
Happy retirement RIDDLESTOWN.We have made the decision to retire one of our stable stars.
Riddlestown (Mikey) has been the most remarkable horse for our small yard for the last 8 years.
He ran 87 times for us, winning 15 and notching up numerous placings and £80k in the process.
He was the toughest, most robust horse who never had any injuries or issues throughout his career.
He always had his own ideas about the racing game and the older he’s become the more ideas he’s got (mostly the wrong ones!), hence this decision.
Harry Skelton and more recently Jack Andrews got tremendous tunes out of him and won 6 races each on him.
He was the first horse John Ward owned and what an amazing horse to give him so many special days.
He won 7 times at Southwell and I believe still holds the record there for number of wins.
He adored Towcester winning 5 times there and never being out of the first 3 in all his completed starts there.
The course played to his strengths and I firmly believe if it hadn’t closed he’d have added a few more wins to his tremendous tally.
His best season was in 2017 when he won 4 on the bounce in just over 6 weeks at his favourite tracks Towcester and Southwell, fences and hurdles, all ridden by Jack.
What a horse he’s been and it’ll be strange and sad without him in the yard.
He is spending his retirement with Charlotte Amps who knows him so well and has led him up to win several times.
He’ll be doing a lot of hacking, hunting and low key fun stuff which we know he’ll thoroughly enjoy.
THANK YOU RIDDLESTOWN!!!! You’ve been amazing.
We dreamt of ending on a high but you had other ideas as usual! Have a wonderful retirement!
